Marlon's Birthday Outing- Visit to Blue Springs Florida

The first thing I should tell you is to ARRIVE EARLY.  We got there about 10:30am and were close to the cut off to enter the park.  It was already full, 2 Park Rangers blocked the entrance to the park right after we entered.  The rest of the cars had to go down and turn around and start a line up to gain entry.  One car out and one in.  This place frequently reaches capacity every day of the week, winter and summer.

Manatee Count: You can call 386-775-3663 before your visit to find out the latest manatee count.

Fees are only $6 per vehicle up to 8 in a car than its $2 more per person.

Fish were on the manatee in this photo.

 Spanish moss-covered trees.
 Down on the boardwalk.
 Beautiful scenery from the boardwalk.

Louis Thursby, one of the area’s first European settlers, came here with his family in 1857. He hoped that being close to the river would help him to grow wealthy, and so he built an orange grove and a pier for passing steamships. The Thursby house is preserved as it looked at the turn of the 19th century, capturing Florida in a momentous period of transition between the frontier and modern state.

Look close do you see the manatees?
Can you find the manatees in the water?

The Limpkin was on an endangered species list at the beginning of 2000.  The bird got its name because of its seeming limp when it walks. It also is called the crying or wailing bird due to its loud mournful call which is usually done at night.

Gators, Birds & Turtles oh my.

Narrated St. John River Cruises can be purchased here.  We waited in line but they had sold out for the day.  Looked like rain was coming in so we were OK with it. Lots of people were renting canoes and kayaks.

Looked up and seen this great looking hawk.  He was just sitting up on the tree looking down at all the people on the boardwalk.

Lots of boardwalks throughout the park.

LA Enchanted Moonlight Lantern Art Forrest

The LA Moonlight Lantern Forrest was at the Arboretum, which was turned into an evening of a lighted wonderland. We enjoyed a delightful evening with our LA family.  I love the fact that our LA family found this awesome holiday illuminating entertainment for us. We saw live acrobats show at the end of the night. There were lanterns, exotic animals, shimmering flowers, whimsical pandas and dragons.
I also need to mention that we had dinner at the line of food trucks at the arboretum.

Our food was so delicious, we even had these special topped doughnuts at one food truck.  We choose 2 different types of doughnuts, Reese cups, and Smores toppings.
I narrated some in this video I created at the LA Lantern Moonlight Lights.  Please click the link so you can see just how spectacular the arboretum is.

Good Bye Japan Till We Meet Again

wanted to say THANK YOU to all our friends in Japan. We enjoyed every minute of our time with you. We made so many special memories. I'm still trying to get my blogging done so I can always go back and read all about our first Autumn in Japan. I miss all of you already and am looking forward to some visits from you to Florida.

Narita International Airport
We bought a few souvenirs for the 2020 Olympics that are to be held in Japan.

Marlon paid extra so I could experience the elite lounge in the airport while we waited for our flight to LA to visit Audrey.

Nothing like Homemade Chili and an Art Show on a cold wet day. - Utsunomiyia Museum

Yuji Kashawamuri is the director of the Tochigi Prefecture Museum.  It's great to be staying there as he knows many people and we get to see what goes on behind the scenes at a museum.
There is an Art Show at the museum today, featuring things that are made in Tochigi Prefecture.  I enjoyed looking at everything.

Click this link to see this guy make bamboo rings that hold together a scarf.  I totally love it.  I also was taught how to make one.

This is the bamboo ring I made for my scarves.
I bought a necklace from this gentleman who made the wood ring on my necklace as well as the wooden items in the pics.
Yuji had to do a speech at the school for history of Utsunomiyia.  We are now headed to school early so we can look around at all the exhibits.  Marlon and I were chosen to be dressed in a kimono for me and Kimono for men for Marlon.  We felt very honored.  After we were dressed we were to walk around the school for others to see how people used to dress in Japan on a daily basis.

Made chili tonight for the host family.  We shopped with Keiko so she could read the cans to make sure I was getting the correct supplies for chili.  I started by browning the pork and beef mixture and while that was cooking I cut green pepper and onion to add to the meat mixture.  Keiko is paying close attention to what I'm doing and writing down instructions.
Keiko noticed I didn't have an apron on and went and got me one and put it on me. :-)
It's about 40 degrees F outside so Yuji made a fire.  Nothing better on a cold wet day than a fire in the fireplace and some homemade chili.
Dipping out the soup and garnishing it with sour cream, cheese, and onion.

I also made some peanut butter sandwiches to eat with the soup.  They loved it!!  Keiko is going to make some for a small dinner group that is coming to her house next Saturday.   I hope they enjoy it as much as we did!
