Flight 93 Memorial in PA- Such a humbling experience

Flight 93 Memorial
Our walk to the Flight 93 Memorial started at the top of a hill. My heart was already feeling heavy before I even reached the Flight 93 Memorial visitor center.
The walkway was the path of the airliner before it crashed into the field.

The Flight 93 National Memorial is a memorial built to commemorate the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, which was one of four aircraft hijacked in the September 11 attacks. The memorial is located in Stonycreek Township, Somerset CountyPennsylvania, about two miles north of Shanksville and 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The national memorial was created to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93, who stopped the terrorists from reaching their target by fighting the hijackers.

View of the crash site from the visitor center.  The bolder is put there to show where the plane crashed.  The crash site was basically a hole in the ground.  A field of honor forever.........
Saw this deer roaming through the fields of the flight 93 memorial.
Visitor Center- I sat and listened to the recordings of some of the passengers talking on the phone to their loved ones when the terrorists took over the plane.  It was heartbreaking, some of them left messages on their recorders when no one picked up.
You can have a Birdseye view of the crash site from the Flight 93 Memorial Visitor Center.

Wetland Bridge and pondThe walkway is lined with trees to the wall of names of flight 93. Total of 40

the flagpole and benches are a meeting point for the scheduled ranger program
A 17.5-ton sandstone boulder sits near the base of the hemlock grove representing the location where flight 93 went down.

A Ceremonial Gate is constructed of hemlock wood. We looked down the flight path to the last piece of granite etched at the time of the crash and the impact site is marked with a sandstone boulder.

White marble wall with the 40 victims' names engraved.

The Tower of Voices serves as both a visual and audible reminder of the heroism of the forty passengers and crew of United Flight 93. On September 09, 2018 Flight 93 National Memorial hosted a dedication event to complete the final phase of construction and complete the permanent memorial. The chimes were installed and dedicated on September 10, 2020.

The tower is conceived as a monumental, ninety-three feet tall musical instrument holding forty wind chimes, representing the forty passengers and crew members

Tower of Voices -
I love how the sun is peeking through the tower.

There are no other chime structures like this in the world. The shape and orientation of the tower are designed to optimize air flow through the tower walls to reach the interior chime chamber.

While I was at the Tower of Voices 4 yellow butterflies landed in front of me.  Such beauty and serenity.
Another butterfly landed with the group of 4 then there was 5.
Lots of prairie grasses

Tower of Voices- The “C” shape allows sound to reflect outwardly from the open side in a fan-shaped pattern.
