Exploring Central Florida- Crystal River

Woke up Sunday morning and ready to take a ride and explore outside 'The Villages'.  We packed some lunch and beverages along with binoculars and headed out to 3 Sisters Springs, Crystal City Florida.  Was hoping to see some manatee but looks like we are too late.  All I got to see was pictures of them hanging on the Admissions office walls.

They have not been inland much because of the unusually warm weather.   So I'm glad that Marlon had some other plans in store for us.  He took out the print out of areas we could go birding and drove to Crystal River Archeology State Park.

Check out those woodpecker holes in that tree.

61-acre, pre-Columbian, Native American site has burial mounds, temple/platform mounds, a plaza area.
This mound was made from their trash which included bones from animals, fish bones, shells etc.  We did walk to the top and the view was stunning.  Lots of boats cruising up and down the river and people out and about touring the park.

We sat by the river relaxing in the sun enjoying nature that was all around us.
Finally spotted a bird, which is the reason we are here at this park.  This bird is a palm warbler.
Leaving the park and going to our next destination.
