The first bird we saw on our Sunday cruise tonight in the golf cart was a Sandhill Crane. Its spring and there are lots of babies being born. A little information about the sandhill crane is that when they mate it's for life. They choose their partners based on dancing abilities. When they dance they stretch their wings, pump their head s, bow and then leap into the air. Females usually lay 2 eggs, only one nestling typically survives. Mated pairs of Sandhill Cranes are mates and their juvenile offspring stay together until they are 9-10 months old.
