At the top of the
mountain is a beautiful Kannon statue of the Goddess of Mercy. It was built in 1936, it has 41.8
meters high and weighs "only" 6,000 tons. Due to its location and size, the statue is visible from
almost anywhere in Takasaki. It was really a great feeling standing directly in
front of something so huge.
You
can go inside the statue but we chose not to do this. I'm sure if you climb up inside the statue
you would have a great view of the city.
I saw windows along the side of the statue which would offer a beautiful
view from inside the statue.
Marlon and
I and Ric and Teresa enjoyed the view of Takasakii city
in front of the statue. The view was
still very impressive.
I just found this
out while looking up information about this statue that superstition has it
that you should not come here with your "other half", it brings bad
luck. Yikes, guess this information does
not count for me because I don't believe in superstition. :-)
There were many flowering trees that were just breathtakingly beautiful. I especially loved the cherry tree that had red and white blossoms on the same branch.
