Rick
& Teresa picked us up at 9am to head to Sun Beach which is an hour
away. I had been there yesterday but this is Marlon's first time to see
the ocean in Japan. My sunburn from yesterday is A ok just a little pink in
some areas. Today is hotter, so hope I don't get a bad burn. I brought some
SPF30 so hopefully this will protect Marlon & myself. We ate our breakfast
at McDonald's and then headed over to be picked up at the train station.
We have arrived atOarai
Beach and Marlon seems to be excited about seeing the Pacific Ocean here in
Japan. :-) We all grab stuff from the car to go set up our spot on the
beach. It's around 90degrees and a nice cool breeze blowing in off the
ocean.... nice.
Found
our perfect spot on the beach and set up camp life is good!!!
We
got camp set up and noticed there was a group of people gathering around this
little truck with the flag on it. Teresa and Rick said it looks like they
are gathering people to do a "Fish Net Pull"
After
getting enough people to divide up into 2 teams the boat is searching the ocean
for the best spot to drop the net.
The
teams were being supported by a company called Glico which is a candy company.
The entire event was being filmed for this company who supports helping others
keep old traditions such as fish netting pull.
I
saw a little Japanese boy who had his gloves and was headed towards all the
others that were getting their place on the rope to pull. Such a cute
little lad.
The
people on the pulling team requested Rick & Marlon to please help
them! It is not easy pulling this rope from the water as its dragging the
ocean getting the fish and fighting the undercurrents. Put blisters on
your hand (rope burns) but the two of them had agreed to help! It was
totally amazing watching this entire fish net pull come together. Once
both sides had pulled the net far enough to shore the two teams had to come
together to close the net and finish pulling it in.
PULL
GUYS PULL.........
I
am so glad we are here at just the right timing to be a part of this
spectacular event :-)
Final step to get the
entire fish net unto the shoreline .
When
the net started coming up on shore I saw so, so, so many jelly fish, and stingrays.
I got a really big shock when I saw them pull up this shark.YIKES I can't
believe I have been swimming in this water.
What
a big catch that came in, lots of fish to divide between the teams.
Nice
Catch of fish!!!
Stingrays
|
The
Leaders of the fish net Pulling picked out all the stingrays and of
course the shark... Then the fish were poured into bins to be
cleaned.
The fish have been sorted and the rest in this bin will be divided between the people in the fish pull.
This
little girl had no problem putting her hands in the bin and looking for
different types of fish that don't belong int there.
Rick
decided he would pick up the shark yikes..........I did finally get curious
enough to touch the shark, the skin is very rough it feels like sand paper....
The
nets were taken back to the boat and any fish stuck in the net were given to
the birds what a feast they are having.
Teresa and I have been
waiting to enjoy the ocean, after the fish net pull was over we got our toys
and took off towards the ocean to play. We had a wonderful time even
though I was a little timid to get into the ocean after seeing what they had
just pulled out of it. I mean a SHARK.......scary....
Teresa
and I played in the ocean on the tubes for at least an hour and had a wonderful
time enjoying the waves and the sunshine.
Marlon
& I did get sunburned, ouch I just know I'm going to be
feeling some pain later. The tops of Marlon's feet look like they are
going to be sore also, they are bright red.
We
are on our way home so we can have some time to clean up and rest before going
to a restaurant at LA LA Square. Teresa and Rick invited us to go with them and
Dave and Sue and eat yshobu~yshobu style.. Yshobu Yshobu style. This eating style is getting a plate of meat and some veggies and a pot of miso and just
water are put in the pot that is divided. The things are cooked by taking
a piece of meat and dropping it in the hot boiling miso and swish it around and
say Yshobu Yshobu 3 times then take it out and eat it.
Rick
& Teresa dropped us off at the train station and we will meet them at the
restaurant around 5:30.
I
so enjoyed going to dinner with Rick & Teresa, Dave and Sue. Marlon and
I really liked Yshobu Yshoubu style of cooking. While we were at restaurant we
ordered the drink bar which is endless. You even make your own mixed drinks
wow......... I drank orange Sho~chu.
We
all were invited to go back to Dave & Sue's house to play a game of
cards. The game was awesome, we ended up playing cards till
midnight. Told everyone goodnight and walked back to the Richmond.
What an enjoyable day & evening. Thanks to all who made our day another special
