Day 5 St. Andrew’s Golf Links in Scotland!!

On the bus this morning and it’s sprinkling rain.  We are going to the famous golf course in Scotland called St. Andrew’s.  When we arrived the rain had stopped😀.  We are all happy about this!  We are not going to be here long 50 minutes to be exact. We took off in an hurry to explore as much as we could.  First thing we see is the West Sands Beach and the North Sea.

As we walked we saw several Golfers starting their round of golf which is approximately $500 to play.

We absolutely wanted our pictures on the bridge at the 18th hole of St. Andrew’s.  As we were venturing down to the bridge on the 18th Green, we saw an older gentleman walking and dragging his coat. I told him about his coat dragging and he said not only that but my ass is dragging to I’m  82 years old.  We laughed and he started talking to us about being a club member of St Andrew’s.  It cost thousands of dollars to join and membership fees are high.  He ask us out of the blue if we were able to climb out a window, if we could he  will  take us to get the best view of the golf course. I told him we can climb out a window!  He told us to follow him!!  He walked us to the private St. Andrew’s golf club. We went up to the door of the golf Club and He slid his card into the slot and told me to pull the door open .  Our mouths fell open as we were impressed that we were inside of the most prestigious golf club in the world.
He told us to go up 3 flights of stairs and go into the Snooker room and we would find a window with a small balcony. We did as he instructed .  I called downstairs and told him we see a room with pool tables.  He yelled back up to me that they are called Snookers and go on in.  We found the snooker room and I went to the window and opened it.
I climbed up on the ledge and swung my legs out the window. Marlon followed.  We took some amazing pictures of St Andrew’s golf links. We stood on the balcony just admiring the view.

We climbed back in the window and proceeded back downstairs.  Bob was waiting for  us at the bottom.  He then proceeded to talk to us about the history of this club and about the peoples pictures hanging on the walls. He told us the  Golf course at first was mowed  by sheep.  Then a guy named Tom Morris who was the grounds keeper of St Andrew’s a heard  Edwin Beard Budding in 1830 who had invented Thea 1st lawn mower .  Tom asked Budding to make a mower that was motorized and could cut bigger swatches of grass.  During the meeting he proposed to Budding if he could build this he would make lots of money from St Andrew’s golf links.  From there it’s history!!

We were VERY LUCKY to get to go Inside the most famous private country club of all.  We didn’t have time to get our picture on the bridge at the 18th hole, but that’s OK. We Made a new friend and the knowledge of hearing his stories.  We did do some shopping in the club and overspent for sure . We have to be back in 50 minutes and we have 10 minutes to get back to the bus. We have a great story to talk about as Bob told us many stories!!

I wanted some iced coffee so we went to get some, the bus was parked right beside the St Andrew’s Coffee House!
