Christmas in New Orleans 2010

Today is Dec 27th and we have finally arrived in New Orleans after 14 hours of traveling in a car.

We found our hotel which is called Wyndham Garden Hotel.  Once we found the hotel we had a hard time finding a place to park so we could check in.  After driving around the block several times we found a place to park across the street from the hotel.  Hubby ran in and checked us in and got information on parking. There is a designated place to park for the hotel and you park your own car.  The cost of parking is $20 a day which is added to your hotel bill. We went into the hotel and wow I loved the interior. All the rooms faced into the middle of the building leaving an opening with a great view. We took our suitcases up to room #335.

I started unpacking my suitcase while Marlon went back down and parked the car. We were very excited to take off and venture around town.  I'm getting hungry since it was around 4:30pm when we left the hotel.  Decided to take a trip down Bourbon St. which I have heard so much about.  The street had lots of Christmas decorations which make it look so festive. I loved the different forms of transportation. I plan on taking a trip on all of them. As we moved on down Bourbon St. we saw a automated lift for the police to patrol the area. Its amazing they are getting ready for the New Years Eve Party on Bourbon St.

As we traveled down the street we heard music and followed the sound to a place called Musical Legends Park.  Right inside the entrance were 3 brass statue musicians and sign that stated Steamboat Willie and the jazz band play nightly.

That put a smile on our faces as we could see them playing.  I had a pep in my step as we walked over to find a place to sit.  Marlon went and got us 2 nice hot cups of Irish Coffee, its only 40 F outside and the hot Irish coffee will taste so good. Our seats are in front of the heater so all is good.  While sitting and sipping on our very strong Irish coffees some other people came over and joined us.  Before we knew it there were several people in the heater area. Met some people John, Ricky, Barbara and Amy from Dallas Fortworth.  2 other guys were sitting near us and had bought some beignets.  I had never had any of these french doughnuts and the guys told me I should try them.  He gave me his bad of goodies and told me to take one. The French doughnut was covered in powdered sugar and wow was it delicious.  I drank 2 of the Irish coffee drinks and chatted with the nice people we had met while listening to the jazz music.  I thought it was funny  how there were so many vendors selling hot-dogs on almost every corner.  The carts were shaped like hotdogs LOL.
Marlon and I left and went to find a restaurant called Deanie's Seafood.
Its starting to get dark and all the Christmas lights are on and the city is shinning and full of life.
As we walked to find Deanie's Seafood I looked up and laughed to myself up on a wire were beads hanging from last years Mardi Gras.
The houses were decorated with Christmas and the architecture of the houses is Federal Townhouse around Deanie's Seafood.
On the way back to the hotel I loved the way the palm trees lined the streets.  They were strung with thousands of bright twinkling lights. I could see the cable car coming in between the row of brightly lit palm trees.
We are slowly making our way back to the hotel where we will rest for the night.
